Emerson J. Elliott, Director, Program Standards Development Project

Works with NCATE’s specialized professional associations to develop performance standards for teacher preparation and in developing criteria for assessments of candidates to determine whether they have met the standards. Elliott headed the National Center for Education Statistics for nearly eleven years, concluding a term in 1995 as the first “Commissioner of Education Statistics” when the post became a Presidentially-appointed, Senate-confirmed position under legislation enacted in 1988.
