NCATE State Partnership ProgramNCATE’s State Partnership Program is a cooperative venture built on the rigorous standards of our nation’s foremost education and subject matter organizations. The NCATE State Partnership Program was established during the NCATE Redesign in the late 1980s. The goals of the original program were to integrate state and national professional educator preparation standards, increase the rigor of reviews of teacher education institutions, and reduce the expense and duplication of effort that occur when states and NCATE conduct two separate reviews. NCATE has partnerships with 46 states to conduct joint reviews of colleges of education. The partnerships integrate state and national professional teacher preparation standards, increase the rigor of reviews of teacher education institutions, and reduce the expense and duplication of effort that occur when states and NCATE conduct two separate reviews. In the year 2000, the State Partnership Program mission was expanded
to include a commitment on the part of NCATE and its partner states to
align state content area teacher education programs and teacher licensing
standards with the NCATE program standards that define what teachers should
know and be able to do; and, to develop a relationship in which NCATE
and its state partners collect and analyze data on candidate performance.
