Professional Biography:

Dr. Satcher has been employed at the University of West Alabama since August of 2006. She has taught a variety of courses in which she brings knowledge of the subject area, high intensity and energy. As an educator, Dr. Satcher encourages students to seek help and support. Recently, she was assigned to the College of Education Advising Handbook committee and was honored as the 2010 SREB Faculty Mentor of the Year at the Compact for Faculty Diversity in Tampa, Florida.

Dr. Satcher has been very instrumental in pursuing external funding to support different projects. In 2007, she submitted a proposal to the Green/Sumter Enterprise Community to help support the National Youth Sports Program. As a result, the project received $20,000. She also coordinated portions of the UWA Outreach and Partnership Project through a grant received from the U.S. Department of Justice worth $493,614. In 2010, Dr. Satcher received a $5,000 grant from the Alabama Strategic Alliance for Health which helps address educational needs to strengthen the current school physical education curricula and after-school programs. It was through this grant that creative projects were formed such as the “No Child Left On Their Behind: Playing It Forward.” In addition, the “CATCH Kids Club” was implemented.

Dr. Satcher has served in several leadership roles. In 2007, she was the Activity Director for the National Youth Sports Program. As director, she was responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, and running the day-to-day operations. The program stressed sports instruction to 250 youths, ages 10-16.

Over the past five years, Dr. Satcher has served on several committees. Some current institutional committees include: the University Academic Council, the College of Education Academic Council, the Faculty Senate, the Faculty Information Committee, the Research Oversight Committee, and the Sponsored Programs Advisory Committee. She is currently chairing NCATE Standard Six and working as part of the SACS Undergraduate Programs Subcommittee. Other assignments include operating as lead teacher for PE 520, 521, 522, and 523 and serving as member of the Building the Educational Strategy of Tomorrow (BEST) Faculty Team.
