Professional Biography:

Dr. Laurie Fowler began her career in education as a Latin and English teacher at Central High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She taught Latin I, II, III, IV and Advanced Placement Latin in addition to English 10 and Graduation Exam Remediation for Language Arts and Reading.  Dr. Fowler also helped organize the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme at Central High School in 1995 and served as the IB Coordinator from 1995 until 2001.  In 2001 after 10 years as a high school teacher, Dr. Fowler took the position of Technology in Motion Regional Trainer for the University of Alabama/University of West Alabama In-Service Education Center. Dr. Fowler taught technology integration skills to K-12 teachers in 12 school districts in the West Alabama area.  After 3 years in this position, she moved to the Tuscaloosa County Schools Central Office as the Director of Staff Development.  She worked with teachers to meet the No Child Left Behind Highly Qualified Standards and also provided professional development opportunities for all the professional personnel in the school district.  In 2007, Dr. Fowler began an educational consulting business, Ready, Set, Think! LLC and has provided professional development for schools in the areas of technology and strategic teaching.  Dr. Fowler joined the UWA staff as an adjunct professor in the Fall of 2008 and continued as an adjunct until being hired full time in August 2009. She loves teaching about technology and learning new things.
