Professional Biography:

Dr. Beaird joined The University of West Alabama faculty in 1994.  She earned a B.S. degree in the social sciences from Illinois State University and taught at the junior high/high school level for the next 7 years.  Dr. Beaird then earned an M.S. degree in health education from The University of Illinois and worked for the Nebraska State Health Department as a Health Educator III for the next 3 years.  In 1987 she went back to school to earn a terminal degree in Exercise Physiology.  In graduate school, she studied the effects of heat stroke on military men wearing chemical defense suits.            In the early years at UWA she wrote an Anatomy and Physiology lab manual.  She is presently involved in immunology research with graduate students.  They are examining Tramp-C Prostate Epithelial Cancer Cells.
