Professional Biography:

          Dr. Gunnar Cazers was appointed as a tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Physical Education and Athletic Training in the Julia S. Tutwiler College of Education in August of 2013. He specializes in teaching courses in sport pedagogy, wellness, adapted physical education, and motor learning. He has been selected several times as a faculty fellow to teach in the Steelcase Active Learning Classroom.
          Dr. Cazers earned a Ph.D. in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport pedagogy from the University of Alabama in December, 2009. Before coming to The University of West Alabama he was the chair of the Department of Health and Physical Education at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He completed is master’s degree at Baylor University, and his master’s thesis on the German contribution to American physical education was published in the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. Dr. Cazers received his undergraduate degree in his hometown at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
          His research interests include sport history and the life histories of physical educators. He is a member of SHAPE America, the national association of physical educators, and is chair-elect of the college council of ASAHPERD, the Alabama state organization of physical educators. In his free time, Dr. Cazers enjoys playing music, traveling, running, Nordic walking, and hiking.
