Course Description: |
A study of the processes of planning and designing a facility, material handling, equipment selection, and plant arrangement |

Course Objectives: |
1. To introduce the concepts and procedures of planning and designing a facility 2. To develop an understanding of the different material handling systems 3. To develop an understanding of area allocation 4. To gain experience in flow analysis techniques 5. To complete a designated industrial project |

Course Material: |
Manufacturing Facilities Design and Material Handling 2nd edition by Fred E. Meyers; Prentice Hall publishing co.; and outside reading assignments |

Will consist of homework assignments, reports, class participation and quizzes (administered anytime) |

Test: |
Four test will be given and each test is worth 100pts. Make-up test will be given only for excused absences providing the student has sufficient documentation. All make-up work must be completed within two weeks of returning to school. |
||||||
|
|
Final: |
A final will be administered for a total of 20% of the final grade. |
||||||
|
|
Project: |
Each student will work together as a group to determine the best method to complete their project. Each student will participate in a presentation of their project consisting of, but not limited to plant layouts, flow charts and diagrams. |

|

|
|||||||
|
Attendance Policy: |
See the attendance Policy in the UWA General Catalogue. Class attendance is mandatory for success in this course. Roll will be checked at the beginning of each class and tardiness will be counted as an absence. A student must attend two-thirds (2/3) of all class meetings to receive credit for the course. |

English Proficiency: |
The work of any student in this class who has completed freshman composition will be evaluated for written proficiency. Students who do not demonstrate proficiency in written English will be reported to the Written English Proficiency Committee and must then follow procedures outlined in the Catalogue and the Student Handbook. |
