Biography:

Balakrishna Gokaraju received the B.Tech. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from J.N.T.U. Hyderabad, India, in 2003 and the M.Tech. degree in Remote Sensing from Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi, India, in 2006. He also received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Mississippi State University, Mississippi State, MS, U.S.A. in 2010.

He is currently employed as Assistant Professor in the Department of CIS and Technology at COB, UWA. He teaches electrical and electronics courses for under graduates in industrial maintenance and industrial technology academic programs. Prior to this he worked as Post Doctoral Associate in the GeoSystems Research Institute at Mississippi State University's High Performance Computation Collaboratory. His research interests include but not only limited to pattern recognition, machine learning, spatio-temporal data mining, adaptive signal processing. His research experience describes the development of various algorithms towards automatic target detection, classification, and prediction in the application domains of Multi-spectral, Hyper-spectral and Radar remote sensing. He also developed several XML schemas for standardization of image information mining language systems via OGC Web Services Framework. Various object oriented approaches were developed by exploiting the very high-resolution satellite sensor data for their potential in urban remote sensing studies. High performance computing using hybrid CPU-GPU architectures are also investigated for scientific applications. He also published in many peer-reviewed journals and international conferences.

Dr. Gokaraju is an active reviewer for various journals and conferences, including Journal of Applied Geography by Elsevier Publications, International Journal of Image and Data Fusion by Taylor and Francis, Oxford, UK, and IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing (JSTARS), by IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society. IEEE Transactions in Geoscience and Remote Sensing, IEEE Letters in Geoscience and Remote Sensing.
